Apr 17, 2019 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
I was extremely delighted to read in the letter column of your newspaper of Wednesday 10 April 2019 – “A person with an axe to grind or just an agent of provocation or worse yet”. This is a professional, factual and sequential review of the Return to Work managing procedure for injured employees as outlined by Mr. Michael Williams.
It would be beneficial to other companies and institutions in Guyana to comply with the labour laws as it relates to the correct procedure to follow when there are injured employees in the workplace. As is practice at AGM Inc., I have noted as well the importance of maintaining in good order the accident and dangerous occurrence register as highlighted in Michael’s letter.
I have known Michael Williams as an Occupational Health and Safety professional in Guyana who worked at Aurora for many years; he is extremely talented and experienced in his Medical and Health and Safety fields. Additionally, he is very passionate about safety in the workplace. I was shocked when he told me of his demise at the hands of the so-called “North Road Clan”. It was very unfortunate that he had resigned from AGM Inc. Nevertheless, he now manages his private safety consultancy firm.
The witch-hunt and false allegations that were leveled against Michael by a fictitious person, might have been the catalyst for his resignation, and was very unfair to him as a safety professional. More so, that after two independent inquiries the conclusions were the same; the allegations are false, the organization the person purports to represent is a ghost and the person is fictitious. Thus, vindicating Mr. Williams and proving his innocence.
We must know as right thinking Guyanese that the current rift in Guyana Goldfields Inc. /AGM Inc. has its genesis in poor managerial decision-making. There are numerous other workers at AGM Inc. who suffered similar witch-hunt tactics and I am extremely happy to read Michael Williams’s factual account of the company’s safety record in the print media – setting the record straight. Maybe, he should now serve as the catalyst for others to speak out about unfair treatment.
Mr. Williams’s letter clearly shows he has no axe to grind with AGM Inc. and he is a true safety professional. I am of the firm belief, after reading the letter in the Chronicle Newspapers of Monday 8 April 2019 – “Safety Should be the First Consideration” and the use of M. Williams as the letter writer, that wicked intentions and a possible smear campaign are at play against Michael Williams.
Sometimes the nature of the beast is predictable, more so, when their intentions and motives can be alluded to the following adjectives: desperate, deceptive, and destructive and to some degree delusional.
Kudos Michael! Stay focused on the positive always my brother.
Regards
Rhonda Morris
