From May 3-12 the Buxton Carl Hooper CC will travel to theTwin Island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago where they are scheduled to play five 50-over and four T/20 games.
This is first such tour for the East Coast of Demerara unit and will bring together a mixture of youth and experience and is expected to provide exposure to different conditions and different game situations which can only auger well in their pursuits for more East Coast Cricket titles as they continue to grow the Buxton brand on the East Coast and throughout Guyana.
Stemming from this tour it is hoped that the same can be done with the tour to the Counties of Berbice, Essequibo and Demerara, this is the view that player Coach Marvin Cato has put forward and which his players have whole heartedly bought into.
However, this venture is expected to be an expensive one and although Sylvie’s General store, AMI and ACTLABS Inc are on board there is still need for more sponsorship.
The team has reserved rooms at O’Lounge Ltd St. Kelly Village 3, Caroni and has benefited from generous ticket reductions from Caribbean Airlines.
However, Cato explained that this venture can only come to fruition with more corporate sponsorship, which is important especially since time is drawing near.
Improving local cricket and propelling more youths to the East Coast, Demerara, Guyana and possibly West Indies teams are the focus of this crop of players who are enthusiastic about their future in the game of cricket especially since there is a positive feeling flowing through West Indies cricket lately with IPL success stories and the recent success in the England series.
Those desirous of offering support can contact Club Secretary Marvin Cato 667-9158 or 609-7944 or the Club Treasurer Kurt Booker 699-5860. (Sean Devers)
