Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) recorded three consecutive victories when the Inter-Jamaat 15-Overs softball cricket competition organised by MYO continued on Sunday last at the GNIC ground, Woolford Avenue.
Following are the results from matches played:
MYO vs Tuschen Train Station Masjid – Tuschen Train Station Masjid made 165-7 after they were inserted. Timothy Persaud hit 41 (2×4 3×6) while Imtiaz Hack made 39 (4×4 1×6), Feroze Rohoman got 36 (3×4 3×6) and Azid Ali 32 (3×4 3×6).
Bowing for MYO, Timore Mohamed and Shaheed Gittens picked up two wickets each while Bharat Parboo, Richard Latif and Fazal Nazeem had one apiece. In reply, MYO’s opening pair of Gittens and Javid Kayum added 24 before Kayum was bowled by Azid Ali for 19.
Gittens then put on 139 with Latif to steady the chase before Gittens was caught on the long-on boundary for a well played 76 (3×4 6×6), Latif remained unbeaten on 61 (6×4, 3×6) as MYO’s achieved their target 12.3 overs. Azid Ali and Feroze Rohoman had one wicket each.
MYO vs New Mosque – New Mosque, after being asked to bat first, lost opener Fazal Nazeem cheaply, but fellow opener Shameer Baig made a fighting 61 to rally his team to 151 all out in 15 overs. MYO made light work of the target, only losing one wicket in the process with Timur Mohamed scoring an unbeaten 66, Richard Latiff 33 not out and Shaheed Gittens 38.
MYO vs Corneila Ida/Hague Masjid – In their third and final match of the day, MYO won the toss and sent in Corneila Ida/Hague Masjid to bat. Aftab Hoosein gave them a flying start hitting the first over which was bowled by Gittens for 21. Unfortunately he was the only major contributor for his side scoring 77 (3×4 6×6) as Corneila Ida/Hague managed 141 all out in their 15 overs.
MYO responded with 142-3 in 10.2 overs. Openers Gittens and Kayum added 37 before Javid was dismissed for 24 (2×4 2×6). Gittens struck four consecutive sixes off the eight over to reach his half century in fine style before he was undone by a well judged catch on the boundary for 64 (6×4 5×6). Timur Mohamed made 26 not out (2×4 2×6); Mohamed Omar was the pick of the bowlers with 2-28.
The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals which will be followed by the final under lights at the Demerara Cricket Club on April 27th. Diamond New Scheme are leading the points table with 10, followed by MYO on 8, New Amsterdam 4, Tuschen Train Station 4, Cornelia Ida 4, LBI 3 and New Mosque 2.
