The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) successfully held a B Division Volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Port Mourant Apprentice training Center Hostel at Port Mourant Corentyne Berbice.
A number of teams, including two from Georgetown participated in the competition which saw play in both the male and female categories. The male team that took part were No 52 Survivors, Port Mourant Training Center1 (PMTC 1) and Port Mourant Training Centre 2(PMTC 2), Rollers of New Amsterdam, Black Bush Polder Gemini, D’ Edward’s Three Doors Strikers, No 47 Challengers and Guest team Castrol Strikers of Georgetown.
The female teams that participated were Castrol Strikers and Port Mourant Females.
The day’s competition was intense with a number of close matches and a few upsets. In the end top teams PMTC 1 and Rollers clashed in the final. It was PMTC 1 that came out victorious over the Rollers outfit 30 to 25 to cop the winning trophy. Rollers collected the second prize trophy.
The young Levi Nedd Junior was awarded the MVP trophy for his all round play.
In the female encounter, Port Mourant Females defeated Castrol Strikers 30 to 21 to cop the winning trophy. Hannah Hicks of the PM Females team received the trophy for being the MVP on show, while Castrol Strikers females were presented with a trophy for placing second.
Meanwhile, the national male U21 team that is preparing for a tournament in French Guiana in May, played a two best in three warm up match with Rollers and won 25 – 21, 25 – 11. That tournament will also include Suriname. (Samuel Whyte)
