A car race in the wee hours of yesterday morning ended when one of the vehicles crashed into the yard then ploughed into the home of an elderly couple at De Kenderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD) leaving the family traumatized.
According to reports, the driver Dushaant Ramsundar, from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, (EBE) was driving motorcar PSS 2685 at the time of the accident.
It was said that he was racing with two friends around 01:00hrs when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the fence of the yard. The vehicle then slammed into the veranda of the house located on the De Kenderen public road.
Further reports indicated that after crashing the vehicle, Ramsundar allegedly made good his escape from the scene. He went to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he sought treatment for his injuries.
He then went home and reported to his father what had transpired. The father showed up to the scene and he revealed his son’s identity to the victims.
At the time of the accident, the owners of the house, elderly couple Thelma and Rupert Greenidge were at home with their granddaughter and her son. Luckily no one received any injuries.
Investigations are ongoing into the matter.
