A Leguan family is appealing to the Commissioner of Police and Government for help after the death of one of their own.
The family believes that Mark Narine, 22, was murdered by persons with whom he was drinking two weekends ago, or at the very least they know who did the crime.
Yesterday, Narine was buried days after his body was found in a trench in the backdam of Good Intent, Leguan, an island in the Essequibo River, Region Three.
According to an autopsy, Narine died from drowning but he had wounds to his head consistent with being lashed with something.
Family members believed that Narine was killed hours after he drank with two men, on the night of March 30, last. Narine, also called ‘Marko, reportedly did jail time for one of the men, over drugs.
It is believed Narine was also killed because he was owed and had been demanding his money.
Two brothers were reportedly taken into custody Friday morning.
According to family it is believed that police were reluctant to make arrests become the people involved were in ‘bad business’.
“The police did not conduct proper investigation. They did not even cordon off the scene. It was treated like drowning without even the Post Mortem being done,” one of the residents in the area complained to Kaieteur News yesterday.
The investigations continued even as the funeral was held yesterday.
