LeRoy Cort celebrates his first place finish in one of the races in the season opening action last weekend.
“Great opening weekend for me at the Louden Road Racing Series this past weekend, the weather was definitely not friendly though, with temperatures 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the freezing point. As if that wasn’t enough, it was raining and the winds were demolishing pop up tents,” Cort said on the event.
He informed that, “I had three races scheduled for Saturday, three on Sunday but was willing to forfeit riding in the rain. We opted to go out and just get around the track to score points for a good grid position next round, but all that went out the door when the green flag dropped. We finished the day with 5th and two 4th place finishes just being edged out of 3rd at the line by 0.014 in one.”
At Sunday morning’s practice, the temperature was even colder but thankfully there was no rain so Cort was able to run racing slicks and finished 2nd in the first race. By afternoon the sun came out, and he finished 2nd again
and in the last race of the day, the Unlimited Superbike class, which usually sees no limits to the amount of
upgrades allowed, he and team were able to put the #bluedragan (his bike) on the 1st step of the podium.
On the hunt for an overall championship in all 6 classes and to be the first Guyanese to win the Loudon Classic Gran Prix, Cort noted that they have their work cut out. But the dry temperature results showed they have the pace to win it all. The next round is May 19th then they fly to Negril Jamaica for their local race meet on May 25th.
