DEAR EDITOR,
We at the Georgetown City Council are becoming very worried about the reports published in the print media about our statutory meetings. Over the past weeks, as Public Relations Officer, I have received several calls about the stories carried about City Hall.
Our major concern is that many of the stories are not a true reflection of the issues that are debated at the statutory meetings. We are cognizant that the media has the right to carry a story from any angle it chooses. However, the fundamentals of good journalism include the truth which citizens deserve the right to know. We are grateful for the publicity, but at the same time we are concerned about the objectivity, balance and fairness in stories on the Georgetown Municipality. At the statutory meetings several positive things are happening. However, very often this is not reported.
Recently, there was an article about the Mayor and Town Clerk that hit social media captioned City Mayor “Feels Shoved around.” The content of the story is misleading. However, His Worship the Mayor Pandit Ubraj Narine and Mrs. Sharon Harry Munroe would like to inform the public that the issue relating to the Driver/Chauffeur has been resolved.
Debra Lewis
Public Relations Officer
