The parents of one of the first year students assaulted by a schoolmate at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute on Monday disclosed that their son filed a report at the Central Police Station against his attacker, it is understood that the two others also made an official report.
A senior police source confirmed with this publication that the report was indeed made, “they visited the station yesterday morning and filed their report and as such an investigation was launched”.
It was on Tuesday when a video surfaced on social media showing a student of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute launching a vicious attack on three other boys of the institution. In the video, the young man could be heard asking the boys “wha y’all troubling me for?” while he continuously dealt blows to their heads and upper body. A few minutes into the disturbing video, it further showed the teen whipping off his belt and thrashing one of the teens seated between his friends. They were all trying the block the blows by the irate student.
The Ministry of Education on Tuesday had issued a release stating that they have launched an investigation into the matter and the institute was advised to conduct a thorough probe and make available the findings.
There has been a huge debate on social media about the contents of the video, while many opined that the attacker was “provoked and pushed” to carry out the act, others surmised that he had no right to lay his hands on the three boys as he did. The institute remains mum on the issue and the Education Department in Region Six indicated that they were not authorized to speak on the matter nor divulge any related information.
