Fire of unknown origin yesterday gutted a two-storey concrete house, at Lover’s Lane, Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The building, which was reportedly owned by Nigel Anthony,
was reduced to an empty shell, and has left some nine persons homeless.
No one was at home at the time of the incident, and thus nothing was saved, reports indicate.
The fire reportedly started shortly before noon, after power was restored to the community following a prolonged outage.
“All we hear was boom, after lights come on, and the next thing we see, the house on fire,” one neighbour disclosed.
The blaze was extinguished by the Linden Fire Service, which arrived on the scene shortly after the fire erupted.
Several homes in Amelia’s Ward have been destroyed by fire over the years – the most horrific of those disasters being in 2006, when a mother and her four children were trapped in their heavily grilled home and were burnt to death.
