Adam Mohamed, a mason of Lot 266 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, was yesterday remanded to prison when he answered to two charges of armed robbery.
The 20-year-old man entered not guilty pleas to the charges after they were read to him by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The first charge alleged that Mohamed while in company of another on March 1, 2019 at East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme and armed with a gun, robbed Talmattie Persaud of articles amounting to $34,000.
Also it was alleged that on August 22, 2018 at Trench Road, Albouystown, the accused while armed with a gun, robbed Andre Jordan of one Guyana passport.
When asked about having previous charges Mohamed informed the court that he was sentenced to two years in prison for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. He mentioned that he was released in 2017.
Police prosecutor Quinn Harris objected to bail for Mohamed based on the seriousness, penalties and prevalence of the offence. He also highlighted the fact that an alleged gun was used in the commission of the acts and a differing address was given to them rather than what was put to the court.
The prosecutor further indicated that in the case of the victim Persaud, Mohamed was positively identified during a confrontation with both parties by the police.
According to Mohammed, “I am innocent because for the whole of 2018 Andre see me ‘nuff’ time and he never tell me or do me anything. All of a sudden he bring police on me.”
The magistrate remanded Mohamed to prison and adjourned the matter until April 8, next.
