The body of an epileptic elderly man was found in the verandah of a popular businessman yesterday, sparking much curiosity in the Belle West Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara, yesterday morning.
According to police reports, relatives indicated that the man, Lalta Persaud, a male handyman, of the said area, was an alcoholic. He was seen on Sunday last around 22:00 hrs at his home where he was acting unusually and was ‘talking to himself’.
Reports indicated that around 02:00hrs relatives made checks for Persaud and realized that he was missing from his bed. The front door was found wide open. Yesterday morning, according to reports, the man was found lying motionless on the western verandah of the businessman.
The body was examined by police, but no marks of violence were reportedly discovered. It was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where an official pronouncement of death was made.
The businessman has reportedly been questioned by the police.
