Jamaica overcome Windward Islands
All-rounder Hayley Matthews grabbed seven wickets to hand defending champions Barbados and seven-wicket victory over Leeward Islands when the teams collided in the Cricket West Indies Colonial Medical Insurance Women’s Super 50 tournament yesterday at Everest.
Matthews finished with 7-27 from 8.4 overs as Leeward Islands were bowled out for 88 in 27.4 overs after they opted to bat. Rozel Liburd, batting at number 11 top scored with 25 which contained three fours and one six, while Malissa Howard made 13 and Tiffany Thorpe 11 not out.
Matthews returned to hit 23 with five fours at the top of the order, while Deandra Dottin struck four fours and two sixes in a top score of 34 as Barbados responded with 89-3 in 12.1 overs. Liburd took 2-23.
At Bourda, Jamaica beat Windward Islands by 80 runs. Batting first, Jamaica posted 236-8. Chinelle Henry stroked six fours in a top score of 54 off 40 balls, while Natasha Mc Lean made 40 with five fours, Stephanie Taylor 31, Rashada Williams 24 and Chedean Nation 19. A. Fletcher claimed 3-34 and C. Noel 2-36.
In reply, Windward Islands were bowled out for 156 in 46.3 overs. Pearl Etienne made 47 not out while extras contributed 37; Vanessa Watts grabbed 4-25 and Henry 2-17.
