A man who proclaimed himself to be a pastor and sexually assaulted two pre-teens whilst pretending that he was doing ‘Bible Study’ with them has been jailed for four years.
The man John Caddle, 48, who gave his address as Manchester, Corentyne, Berbice and the pastor of The Caribbean International Ministries Church of the said area is accused of sexually assaulting a 12 year old girl and her younger sister whilst pretending that he was doing bible study with them.
The act was committed back in September 2018.
He appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Albion Magistrate Court and was found guilty and sentenced to four years in jail. The case was prosecuted by police woman Inspector Althea Solomon.
Reports are that the man who speaks with a Barbadian accent appeared in the village professing that he was a pastor of immense powers. He established the Caribbean International Ministries church. Caddle started visiting homes and began befriending parents.
He began telling them about how it is important to have their children brought up the right way. One such home was the home of the virtual complainants where he befriended the parents and asked that he conduct ‘Bible Study’ with the kids.
The parents agreed and allowed him full access to the children. He would regularly visit the home, eat and drink; and it was during such sessions during September last when he was with the children that he fondled their private parts.
The girls subsequently reported to their parents what the pastor had done to them. The matter was reported to the police and the pastor was arrested and charged. He denied, but the children held on to their stories. .
Magistrate Singh before handing down sentence said that the court must send a strong message to people who want to do such dastardly acts.
She stated that Caddle abused his position of trust. He used the name of Jesus to lure the children about ‘Bible Study’ and wanted to use God to violate the children.
