‘D’ Field Sophia resident, Quincy Benn, says that he would have still had his home today, had ranks at the Turkeyen Police Station investigated claims he had repeatedly made about a woman who threatened to torch his property.
Benn believes that the woman made good on her promise around 21.00 hrs on Wednesday night. That was when his two-bedroom home mysteriously went up in flames.
Benn and his 17-year-old son lived at the Lot 766 property, but were not at home at the time. They lost all of their belongings, including household appliances and clothing.
Fortunately, Benn said that because of repeated threats, he has been storing his valuable documents at a relative.
Benn, who is divorced, said that he was at a friend’s home in Pike Street, Kitty around 21.00 hrs on Wednesday when he received a call from someone who said that his house was on fire.
He immediately rode to the scene. Firefighters were there, but the entire house, save for the verandah, was already destroyed.
The distraught man said that neighbours suggested that the fire started at the back of the house, but no one admitted to seeing anything suspicious.
But Benn is pointing fingers at the woman, whom he claims made repeated threats to burn the house down. He said that the threats began around 2016.
“On several occasions I reported that she threatened to burn the house down,” he said. “She would come to the house and threaten to burn it.”
Benn also replayed a text message, in which a woman is heard threatening to send individuals to beat his son, while boasting that the police would be unable to intervene.
He alleged that someone had tried to burn his property last Saturday by setting fire to his motorcycle, which he stored in a shed beneath his house.
At present, he is staying at a relative, but is seeking to rebuild.
