Another batch of members of the Guyana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) who have displayed the commitment and dedication to lead has been promoted.
Apart from their commitment to lead, the Cadets have been vigilant in their attendance of training, performing well at school, and, as such, positively influencing their peers.
Those promoted also had to be successful at the Cadet Leadership and Proficiency (CLAP) Examination.
Promotion ceremonies were held at the six pilot schools and the cadets were awarded a stripe/bar representing their ascension to Lance Corporals and Corporals. They were decorated by senior officers of the Guyana Defence Force.
Training for the cadets covered a number of areas including dexterity (which involves Drills), Physical Training, First Aid, Mathematics and English.
The GNCC recently celebrated its anniversary since its re-introduction. Training began in March last year. The GNCC is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Cohesion, the Ministry of Education, and the Guyana Defence Force. It is augmented by Reservists of the Guyana People’s Militia.
Teachers on the programme have since reported improvements in the conduct of the students involved.
The improvements have to do particularly with their discipline and their ability to positively influence their peers.
Some 56 cadets from the Berbice High School were promoted.
