A Solider since March 1, 1982, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and National Boxing Coach Terrence Pool last week received the Medal of Service, Guyana’s fifth highest National Award.
The 55-year-old former boxer said getting the award felt great. “It was a pleasure for me to be honoured with the Country’s fifth highest award” said Pool, Coach of 16 times defending National Boxing Championships Club, GDF.
“I was called by the Protocol Office of the Ministry of the Presidency and was told that my recommendation was approved by his Excellency President David Granger,” Pool recounted how he knew he had gotten the award.
The Coach who grew up on Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt informed that it was his predecessor Lennox Daniels who first saw his potential as a Coach and encouraged him to make the transition from Boxer to Coach.
“This shows I have not failed him. This Award shows that my work is being recognised by persons at the highest level and this gives me the courage to continue to work harder” the dedicated Pool stated.
“I enjoy winning as a Coach and teaching the Art of boxing from the young to the old” added Pool, the father of eight children, the eldest being a 36 year-old son and the youngest, a daughter who is 25 years-old.
Pool, who is presently working with the Pugilists shortlisted for next April’s Pan Am Games, thanked Steve Ninvalle, President GBA, Daniels, Chief of Staff Brigadier Patrick West, all Officers, Ranks and Civilians of GDF, his entire family, friends and well-wishers. (Sean Devers)
