A taxi driver was yesterday hauled before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after being slapped with six charges which include three separate accusations of rape.
Lindon Daniels was not required to plead to the three charges of rape.
The first charge alleged that Daniels, on February 18, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration of a woman over the age of 17.
Also, it was alleged that the defendant on February 13, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration of a girl under the age of 16.
Finally, it was alleged that the accused on January 30, 2019, at Kuru-Kuru Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration of a woman over the age of 17.
Daniels denied the other three charges that he was allowed to plead to after they were read to him.
It was alleged that on February 11, 2019 at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, he stole a Samsung cell phone, $1,000 and US$60.
Furthermore, he allegedly stole one Samsung cell phone on January 30, 2019, at Kuru-Kuru Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
He was also accused of assault. That charge alleged that on February 11, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, Daniels assaulted a woman by pulling down her underwear.
Police prosecutor Richard Harris objected to bail being granted to Daniels based on the seriousness of the allegations. Therefore, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly refused bail for the accused. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on March 1, 2019.
According to reports, Daniels allegedly drove the victims to a lonely area and raped them. After committing the acts he would take away the women cell phones and drive away leaving them in the area.
