The Al Sport and Tour Promotions (ASTP) 28th Annual Easter Term School Windball Cricket Champions Trophy continued recently in the Georgetown Zone with the first knockout games at the National Gymnasium.
The competition which is sponsored by the Forbes Burnham Foundation (FBF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) saw defending female Champions Mae’s Secondary defeat Brickdam Secondary by 84 runs.
Mae’s batted first and tallied a total of 180-0 from their allotted overs. In the record opening stand, Afruica Gentle smashed 150 inclusive of 23 sixes, while Brickdam could’ve only mustered 96-1 in their reply with Princess McPherson top scoring with 52 in the losing cause.
In the opening game, Charlestown Secondary girls edged St. Mary’s Secondary by one run in a very close clash. Batting first, Charlestown tallied 133-0 with Althea Barnwell top scoring with 80 runs, a score that contained 12 maximums. Barnwell had support from Shania Maglorie who smashed 48.
St. Mary’s had a positive reply but fell short agonisingly close after finishing the chase on 132-1 with Zebenah Green top scoring with 62 runs.
In the male division, Richard Ishmael Secondary got the better of defending Georgetown Champions, Charlestown after they failed to chase 30 runs for victory, finishing on 23-3.
Male division action in the West Bank Demerara Zone saw another big upset with Goed Fortuin knocking out defending Demerara champions, Patentia Secondary.
Goed Fortuin batted first and scored 110-0, with Satesh Persaud 54 (9x6s) and Ravi Ragnauth (48) playing unbeaten.
However, Patentia fell by two runs after amassing 108-0. Shemar Seetal 55 (8x6s) and Ganesh Persaud (30) played well but couldn’t finish the match.
Goed Fortuin will play Zeeburg in both the Male & Female quarterfinals this Sunday.
