The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) wishes to condemn several inaccurate, misleading and mischievous articles in the print and electronic media concerning the retreat of doctors from the Paediatric Surgery Department.
The planned retreat is not a GPHC or Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) organised, sponsored or funded activity. In fact, it is a group of colleagues from the Paediatric Surgery Department getting together in a social gathering, during their off duty, at a mutually agreed venue to share their knowledge and experiences.
Further, the articles erroneously suggest that the retreat is organised to examine the circumstances surrounding the recent death of three infants at the GPHC. Be informed that the Paediatric Surgery Department and doctors engaging in the retreat were not responsible for the treatment and management of those infants.
We strongly object to the violation of the privacy of our employees who are committed enough to utilise their off duty and financial resources to further their development and ultimately improve health care at the GPHC and within Guyana.
The GPHC again condemns the articles as malicious, mischievous, devoid of facts and designed to be injurious to the organisation and individuals who work within it. We ask media entities to desist from publishing inflammatory articles.
