A 22-year-old biker died at around 00.25 hrs yesterday after crashing into a hire car on the Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
The victim was identified as Nial Persaud, of 635 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, while the driver is a 44-year-old from Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara.
Police said that the motorcar, bearing registration plates, HC 4991, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway, while Persaud was riding behind.
The driver alleged that he put on his trafficator and proceeded to turn south, when Persaud crashed into the right side of his vehicle and fell.
He sustained injuries to his head and body, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
While a breathalyzer test indicated that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, he was nevertheless detained.
