Led by a fine all-round performance from Tameshwar Motiram, Annandale defeated Mon Repos by 24 runs to win the final of the Lusignan Sports Club (LSC) Ram Slam T20 tournament which was contested on Sunday last at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
Motiram top scored with 43 to guide Annandale to 133-3 off their reduced quota of 15 overs, batting first. He then returned with the ball to take two wickets which earned him the man-of-the-match award.
Skipper Shazaam Ali struck four fours at the top of the order in scoring 35 while Motiram hit three fours in his innings; Rajpaul Basdeo made 26 not out and Gavin Boodwah 21 not out. Azad Mohamed took 2-16.
Consistent bowling by Annandale restricted Mon Repos to 109-9 in reply. Mohamed top scored with 34 which included four sixes, while Surujpaul Deosarran made 11 as Ferron Kadir claimed 2-13, Motiram and Boodwah had 2-16 each and Basdeo 2-18.
Lusignan beat Good Hope by seven runs in the third place game. Batting, first Lusignan managed 31 without loss in three overs with Robin Williams scoring 22 and Krishna Deosarran 12. Good Hope responded with 24-3. Steven Alick made 11 not out as Karamchand Persaud took 2-4.
Annandale defeated Good Hope by seven wickets in the first semi final. Good Hope took first strike and scored 101-6 in 15 overs. Vishnu Ramjeet made 23 while Harrynarine Hira and Steven Alick got 17 apiece and Heera Jailall 12. Annandale replied with 102-3 in 13.3 overs. Rajpaul Basdeo stroked 32 not out and Boodwah 22 not out.
Mon Repos overcame Lusignan by four wickets in their semi final match up. Lusignan took first knock and posted 120-5. Krishna Deosarran slammed 46, while Williams made 31 and Karamchand Persaud 23. Mon Repos responded with 124-6. Somnauth Bharat slammed 27; Jason Heyliger 23, Rajin Sookdeo 22 and Surujpaul Deosarran 17 not out. A. Singh took 2-18 and Karamchand Persaud 2-27. Williams (most sixes), Navin Persaud (best catch), Rajpaul Basdeo (best fielder) and Alvin Goriah (best wicket-keeper) were all rewarded for their efforts. (Zaheer Mohamed)
