Dear Editor,
I am calling on the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Mr. David Patterson and Junior Minister Annette Ferguson, Culture Youth & Sports and Minister George Norton; Christopher Jones Director of Sports, The General Manager T&HD Ms. ‘Merlyn’ Merchant and The Committee of Management of T&GSC.
I am a born Guyanese and former cricketer and member of Transport & General Sports Club looking to rekindle my membership and make some donation of cricket gears etc. to Transport Club. But oh my, it is a sad situation to see the state the Transport & General Sports Club Ground is in.
This ground is in this state since 2005. I left it like this and nothing about the ground has changed. The only things that have changed are the sightscreen, fence and the building.
The previous Government under then Former Minister Robeson Benn did nothing to this ground and I understand that this present Government started with some promise but to date, the ground is still to be made playable. (This ground was second to Bourda Cricket Ground).
The Club is affiliated to the Georgetown Cricket Association, which has youths from under 13 to seniors who represent the club in all age level in cricket under 13, 15, 17, 19, Second division, First division and over 40 division.
I admire the work that the Coach is doing to help keep these youths meaningfully occupied and away from crime and if you read the daily newspapers, Facebook etc., you will see Transport cricketers are performing.
Players have been selected from this club to represent Guyana and the ground is not in any condition for these youths to practise or to even play any competitive matches on the ground.
I am therefore calling on all authorities, all protocol to step in as quickly as possible and help to fix Transport ground so that these youths can get to train and play on the ground without injury.
Concerned Former Cricketer Member.
