Editor,
We the residents of the lower section of Dowding Street are deeply concerned by the recent attempts of the owner of Lot 85 Railway Line. Over the past weeks under the guise of cleaning up the neighbourhood, he has removed the fence that borders his own land, filled in the drain at his property line and spread sand to level off the reserved land.
On numerous occasions, he has been informed by residents that he cannot build on reserved land but it seems clear that he intends to persist. He even took down the fence of the residents living across the reserve from him, rebuilt it, and now claims that their fence is his.
Just last week, complaints were submitted by that resident to the City Engineer as well as Lands and Survey concerning this matter and the errant person was informed of this. He first claimed that he owns the reserve land but when informed that no one can own reserve land he said that he has an agreement of occupancy from City Hall.
However, no one has seen this fabled document.
He told one resident that he purchased the land from Mr. Erskine from City Hall. However, we have not been able to substantiate this due to him not producing his so called agreement.
The slow movement of the bureaucracy leaves us no choice but to turn to the media in order to shine a spotlight on this blatant act of bullyism.
Concerned Resident
