After several hours of deliberation, a 12-member mixed jury yesterday found convicted mass killer, Mark Royden Williams, also known as, ‘Smallie’ and Sherwin Nero, also
known as, ‘Catty’, not guilty of the murder of businessman, Kumar Singh.
Williams and Nero were on trial for the murder of Singh, also known as, ‘Mango Man’, which occurred on August 30, 2017, in the county of Demerara. They were both represented by Attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes and Ashley Henry, while State Counsel Tameika Clarke and Tiffini Lyken presented the case for the prosecution.
According to reports, Singh, 51, was shot after gunmen stormed his home at 51 Craig Milne, Cove and John, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, terrorized and shot at his family members during the ordeal, before escaping on foot. Singh sustained several gunshot wounds and die
d while undergoing surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Though they were acquitted, both Williams and Nero remain imprisoned. Williams is currently serving a death sentence for killing 12 persons, including police ranks, at Bartica in 2008.
As for Nero, he has another pending charge against him. The men were tried before Justice James Bovell-Drakes at the High Court in Georgetown.
