Two men were slapped with two charges jointly yesterday and were refused bail by Magistrate Alex Moore at the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court.
The men, Sheldon Adams and Delwin December, were jointly charged with unlawful wounding and larceny when they appeared shackled together at the court. It is alleged that on February 14, 2019 at Springlands, Corriverton, they stole from Chan Ji Wong, one cell phone.
Additionally, it is also alleged that on the said day at Springlands, Corriverton, Adams and December unlawfully and maliciously wounded Jimmy Sung. Both charges were indictable and the duo was not required to plead. They were not represented by an attorney.
Prosecutor, Inspector Orin Joseph, asked that bail be denied under the grounds that the victim, Jimmy Sung, had to return to the hospital for medical attention, since it is suspected that he suffered a fractured skull during the assault.
He also stated that both December and Adams gave caution statements to the police during the time they were detained and questioned.
Inspector Joseph also pointed out that when the men were captured at the roadblock, there was blood on December’s shoe.
Adams, in his defense from the prisoner’s dock, shouted, “I gave no confession for stealing anything. I didn’t hold anybody or trouble anybody.”
December also shouted, “It was not about stealing anything (cell phone). There was an altercation between us.”

The two suspects being guarded by ranks of the Springlands Police Station as they are about to head out to the New Amsterdam Prison.
Bail was subsequently denied by Magistrate Moore pending a medical update of the wounded victim. The duo is set to return to court on April 8, 2019.
On Thursday, last, Adams and December allegedly invaded the business place of Jimmy Sung and attacked him with a hammer. The men after carrying out the attack, escaped in a white Toyota Premio bearing license plate number PSS 8991.
The police who acted swiftly based on information they received from eyewitnesses, set up roadblocks throughout Region Six. It was at the Number 51 Police Station roadblock that the car was stopped with one of the men driving while the other was seen walking some distance away. They were both immediately apprehended and the car was lodged.
Blood stains were found on the shoes of the driver of the white Premio, police had said. The men told police that they were from Lodge, Georgetown and that they borrowed the car from their employer in the city.
While in police custody, the duo reportedly confessed to carrying out the attack. However, police sources had told Kaieteur News that the men stated that they were hired by a poultry businessman from Skeldon to “rough up” the Chinese National.
They allegedly told police that they were promised a hefty sum to complete the “job”. Additionally, the businessman had reportedly owed the Chinese a huge sum of cash for some window work that they did for him to install on his newly constructed houses, police said. The businessman was subsequently arrested on Sunday and released on $100,000 station bail on Monday. He denied the allegations made by the men while being questioned in custody.
