Youths on the island of Wakenaam are now benefitting from karate classes which is being conducted by Sensei Roland Eudoxie.
The classes which commenced last Saturday are being held at the Essequibo Islands Secondary School in Sans Souci.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, instructor Eudoxie said he is pleased with the response from the youths on the island.
He added that Wakenaam is an ideal place to start the programme in the region and they hope to expand to the other islands in the near future.
Eudoxie, who is the chief instructor of the Korean International Martial Arts Guyana, informed that the programme is being held in collaboration with the ‘Give Another Chance Foundation’ which is a charitable organisation, adding that one of its objectives is to reach out to youths outside of Georgetown.
Eudoxie stressed that these classes will help to maintain discipline and produce well rounded individuals.
He spoke on the importance of self defence and is also urging the parents to get involved.
The classes, which are being held every Saturday, have some 28 participants so far.
