Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) hockey teams were in their usual devastating form as play continued in the Farfan & Mendes Men’s and Woodpecker Products Women’s First Division Outdoor Hockey Leagues yesterday at the Saint Stanislaus College (SSC) ground on Carifesta Avenue.
In the first game of the day, which was contested in the women’s division, GBTI GCC dispelled Woodpecker Hikers with a commanding 9-1 victory. Sonya Jardine banged in four goals, while Marzana Fiedtkou assisted with a hat-trick in the emphatic victory for GBTI GCC.
In the men’s division, Saints Hockey Club (SHC) were unable to continue their winning form from last week as GCC Vintage edged them 3-2. A brace from Lennox Carrol was cushioned by a decisive strike from player/coach Phillip Fernandes during the win for Vintage. Shakeem Fausette scored both of SHC goals.
Meanwhile, in the second men’s first division clash, hat-tricks from Meshach Sargeant and Kevin Spencer were pivotal in Bounty GCC’s 8-0 mauling of the national developmental squad, Supernova.
Mark Sargeant and Alan Fernandes scored one each to take Bounty’s final tally to eight goals.
The tournament continues this afternoon at SSC ground with three more matches.
