Noel Fernandes was the grand prize winner of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph’s (GTT) 2018 Plus Size Christmas promotion. It has been almost two months since he was announced the winner, but the moment of astonishment, elation and acceptance is one on which he will reminisce time and again.
It was the first time he was the winner of any contest. Perseverance, faith, his charm and humility are no doubt factors that contributed to his winning the BMWX1.
Fernandes is not only fortunate to have won the new car, but with a year insurance and a year’s supply of Super 95 Gas from Guyoil, he and his family can journey with ease.
Born in Kitty, Georgetown, his early education was had at Rama Krishna Primary School. When he wrote the Common Entrance Examinations, he was awarded a place at the Indian Trust College where he spent less than a year before transferring to Campbellville Secondary. There he completed his secondary education.
Almost thirty years ago, he committed his life and pledged his love to his wife and moved to Enterprise Gardens, East Coast Demerara where he still resides.
He relies on his family for support, stability and security. They have stood by him throughout his life’s journey and their support during the competition boosted his confidence and helped prepare him for what was to come. They are as equally happy and satisfied that he won the car.
Since winning the car, the euphoria has not subsided. His faith has been strengthened. Material possessions are not as important as family, love, faith, security and happiness in life’s journey.
However, material possessions can certainly enhance life’s experiences and with his new BMW X1, Mr. Fernandes can attest to this.
The comfort and ease he is experiencing has no doubt made this time in his life a little more satisfying, relaxed and secure. He will continue trusting in the power of prayer in all aspects of his life, including the continuous protection and safety of his family as they travel in the new car.
He said that the vehicle is spacious and comfortable. Though he is still learning about its operations, travelling has become much easier. As rewarding and comforting as owning the new car is, he remains the same quiet and unpretentious person he was before.
He is grateful that GTT created such an opportunity. He admires the company’s commitment to serving the Guyanese people. “You have earned the respect and appreciation as a good corporate citizen,” Fernandes stated.
The feelings of joy and contentment will perhaps never dwindle, and he is certainly enjoying every moment a new BMW X1 provides.
