I served in the Guyana Police Force from 1969 to 1976 when I left to take up residence in Canada. I am aware of Guyana current affairs by reading your daily papers. In your edition of February 8 there was chaos at the University of Guyana.
I noticed in a picture of several police ranks including one in khaki whom I think was an officer carried in the newspapers. Due to the then current situation, he was not active at all. He was leaning by his right side against a police vehicle with his head bent downwards like a drunk person.
Mr. Editor, at my age I still play softball cricket with a team in the summer to stay active and I do other things in the winter. I can safely say that this rank is way out of shape because of his size. I am sure that I am around twenty years older than him.
I being a former member of the Guyana Police Force was embarrassed when I saw that picture and I can imagine what the Police Force has become. I never saw any of my senior officers present themselves in such disrespectful manner during my time of service. I wonder what Guyanese worldwide who saw this picture are saying about our Police Force. I guess they were laughing. The authorities need to review the performance and fitness of its members.
Regards
Kenneth Singh
