The Representatives of the Guyanese Community in Venezuela (RCGV), a foundation that represents 65,000 Guyanese living in the South American country, has publicly declared its support for the “Interim Presidency” of the Venezuelan Opposition Leader, Juan Guaido.
The founder of RCGV, Antonio Hamraj, who is a second generation Guyanese, said that the endorsement of the Opposition Leader comes on the heels of urgency in the community f
or a change in the crisis that the country currently is facing. He said that the foundation has evaluated all the facts, concerning the state of the Bolivarian Democracy.
Hamraj said that the representatives of the community believe it is time to organize and contribute to an evaluation of the circumstances which led to the political and economic instability in Venezuela, which cause Venezuelans as well as the Guyanese community to have to endure suffering, with the view of bringing about a turnaround.
“The foundation that leads and protects countless Guyanese people throughout the country lends and supports the interim government [of Juan Guaido]”.
He also pointed out that it was time to address the emergency priorities of Venezuelans, such as the need for healthcare, economic upliftment, food and documentation for foreigners who have not yet been served by the country’s Administrative Service of Identification, Migration and Aliens (SAIME)
Hamraj considered necessary humanitarian aid to attend children living in extreme poverty in neighbourhoods.
“We cannot leave adolescents aside. They are the future generation of this country, blessed by God”.
The RCGV founder also invites the “President” Juan Guaido to participate in the 15th anniversary ceremony of the RCGV to be held at the foundation’s headquarters in San Felix, on March 4.
Juan Guaido is a Venezuelan Politician who has been serving as the President of the National Assembly and who has partially been recognized as Interim President of Venezuela since January 2019. He had taken a public oath to serve as Interim President of Venezuela, contesting the leadership of Nicolas Maduro. He has received the support of the US government.
RCGV Administrator Satish Ramkissoon told Kaieteur News, last year, that the Guyanese diaspora have been living there since 1969, when they left Guyana, as they considered the presidency of the late Forbes Burnham to be a dictatorship. According to Ramkissoon, the exodus from Guyana was mainly due to the economic situation of the country, and they travelled so that they could earn to send support to their relatives living in Guyana. According to RCGV, they are predominantly concentrated in Bolivar State.
