Swift action by B’ Division cops on the upper Corentyne has led to the arrest of two suspects who had pounced on a Chinese businessman in Skeldon with the intention to rob him yesterday afternoon.
Police sources disclosed that the men are from Georgetown and were in a white Toyota Premio bearing license plate number PSS 8991. The car was reportedly parked in the vicinity of the businessman’s window factory for a while, until they decided when “ was the right time” to pounce.
Reports are that the men, one armed with a hammer, entered the business place of the Chinese national who was subsequently dealt a lash to his head and about his body while they demanded cash.
Eyewitnesses quickly made contact with the police who acted expeditiously. Roadblocks were set up along the Corentyne in an effort to capture the suspects, and that proved successful, since one of the men was identified in a car at Number 51 Police Station roadblock heading back to Georgetown, while the other, was found in the vicinity of the car they used. They were immediately apprehended and taken into custody, while the car was lodged at the Springlands Police Station. Bloodstains were reportedly found on the shoes of the man that was arrested at the roadblock.
Kaieteur News was told that one of the suspects stated that he borrowed the car from his employer in Georgetown.
Investigations are in progress.
