The People’s Militia along with the National Cadet Corps will soon be introduced to the people of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam).
Discussions on the two programmes commenced on Monday last, after a military team met with a number of regional officials, including the Regional Executive Officer [REO] Mr. Denis Jaikaran. The military team consisted of Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd Souvenir of the Coastal Battalion and Commandant of the Guyana Peoples Militia Colonel Paul Arthur.
As the discussions unfolded, it was indicated that the Guyana People’s Militia will now be accepting recruits from Region Two, who will be trained as reserves to the Guyana Defence Force [GDF]. It was also discussed that the previously used Guyana Defence Force Infantry training building, which is located in Maria’s Lodge on the Essequibo Coast, will be used as the base of the Guyana People’s Militia.
As was highlighted, recruits from the age of 17 to 35 years old, will undergo training in the evenings and weekends within a two-year period. Upon completion, these recruits will be available to assist the GDF in any crisis, natural disasters or heightened tensions. They will also be actively involved in Regio
