A batch of local church leaders and distinguished Guyanese were on Saturday bestowed with accreditation and Honorary Doctorate degrees by the United Nations-backed Christian organizations, Canadian International Chaplaincy Association, (CICA) University and Seminary and World of Life Ministries International (WOLMI).
The awards were conferred on the recipients by Pro Chancellor of the University, Dr. Devon Bannister, in the presence of local representatives, Dr. Wingrove Babb and Dr. Kester M. Deane during a simple ceremony at the Special Miracles Ministries (Royalty Centre) Church, Freeman Street, East La Penitence Georgetown.
Dr. Bannister, an overseas-based Guyanese, who has travelled to various parts of the world to honour noteworthy men and women for their service in specified fields, noted that the goal of the Ministry is to equip believers who have been in the service of gospel with the tools necessary for market place ministry.
“It is to equip believers to operate outside the realm of the Church. With the UN approved accreditation, the Church can have access to places, which were not so easily accessible. In so doing, CICA and WOLMI are helping Ministers fulfill the charge given to them in Mark 16:15, which is to go into all the world and preach the Gospel.”
He stressed that the awards are not limited to church leaders but to Statesmen who have served their countries exceptionally.
As such, for his work as a specialist in the field of Christian counseling, Reverend Diego Alphonso was presented with the Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Special Envoy (CDSE) Award and Reverend Satyanand Puran, the Order of Minister (OMS) Statesman/Stateswoman Award.
Presentation of Chaplain Badges were made to Chaplain Oslen Munroe, DKA, Rev Dr. Terrence Esseboom, and Reverend Jason Yorrick.
Reverend Yorrick and Denise Harris were both conferred with Honorary Doctorates of Divinity Awardees for the commitment to working in the body of Christ.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News Editor-in-Chief, Adam Elias Harris, Reverend Otello Pereira, Rev. Kenrick Dennis Fitzpatrick Corbin, Rev. Gideon Cecil, Pastor Jacob Nicholas Corbin were among the recipients of the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters awards.
WOLMI is the first and only Full Gospel Church to be granted an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, (ECOSOC), the highest level of accreditation that is awarded internationally to all designates.
In this capacity, WOLMI is able to appoint and accredit ambassadorial representatives annually to offices of the United Nations worldwide and numerous ambassadors-at-large.
Through established links with governmental bodies and other international organizations, WOLMI is on a path to assist the UN in executing its mandate of maintaining world peace, promoting education and fighting poverty.
The Church body is headed by Dr. Phillip Phinn, current Chief Executive Officer and Chief UN Ambassador of the WOLMI.
