Scorching soca fever enveloped the Linden/Georgetown bus Park on Saturday night, spreading from stage to patrons, transforming the facility into a virtual party arena.
Hit by the contagion, Lindeners gyrated to their hearts content, until the wee hours of Sunday.
It was certainly a night to remember.
As the exciting evening commenced, popular soca artiste Kwasi Ace set the stage, for what was to come, as he sang, rapped and danced his way into the hearts of Lindeners.
Ace received adequate back up from fellow guest artistes, who added to his electrifying performances.
MC Malcolm “Wickedy” Perriera only added fuel, to the already raging fire, with his inimitable humour.
By this time, Lindeners were thoroughly hyped and impatient to be entertained by the Soca Monarch hopefuls.
But this segment got underway, with two female performers, who somehow, failed to stoke the flames of excitement, and capture the audience.
However, things changed when Jomo “Rubber Waist” Primo reignited things with his energetic performance, thereby recapturing the crowd’s attention.
Then there were others, who performed creditably, but failed to move the crowd.
All that however changed, in the second half of the show.
First on stage after intermission was Lindener Roderick “Static” Allicock.
The youngest in the competition, this artiste certainly brought his ‘A game,’ in a magnificent, energy-dripping performance.
The audience loved his energy and charisma, which belied his inexperience.
He was followed by Lil Colwyn (Colwin Abrams) who also performed excellently.
As if the best was saved for last, there were other memorable performances by the other contenders including Melissa “Vanilla” Roberts, who never fails to deliver.
Following these performances, twelve artistes were chosen to proceed to the Carib Soca Monarch Finals, to be held at the National Park in Georgetown this Saturday.
Among them are four Lindeners, who as was expected, did not fail to impress both their home crowd and the judges.
Those going forward to the Finals are Shaina Muna (Sexy Berry) with “Na tired yet”; Jomo Primo (Rubber Waist) with “Tribute”; Sherwin Rose (Natural one) with his “Cat & Dog” song;
Alisha Hamid (Sasha Melody) with “Jamming”;
Osbert Cain (Vintage) with “Soca King”,
Ernesta Nelson (Nesta) with “Beating palm” (on she bam bam); Clifton Adolphus (Passion) “Miss Joubert”; Collis McDonald (Real Proof) with “Push back”; Roderick ‘Static’ Allicock with “All Out;” Lil Colwyn (Colwyn Abrams) with ‘Full Access; Onassis Croker (Ryan T) “Wan feel de vibes”; Stephen Ramphal, with “Soca in me vein, “Melissa Roberts (Vanilla) with “One voice”; and Quincy Boyce (True Song) with “Come to Badda Bumpa.”
Current Soca Monarch, Lindener, Brandon Harding, is expected to defend his title.
