In response to the much publicized outcry via various media entities, I would like to offer the following for consideration. However, I must preface by admitting that I am unaware of the contractual requirements as stipulated in the Government’s Profit Sharing Agreement (PSA).
My intent here is to offer simple solutions instead of criticisms of the current administration. Since Government income is directly tied to profits gained through the PSA, Government should implement a policy that regulates travel expenses incurred by their profit sharing partners.
In terms of business travel expenses, there are several business applications in which organizations customize to implement business travel or expense policies. Expense reports, policy compliance and internal audits can be generated by a click of a finger.
In fact, the very company at the centre of this particular controversy utilizes Chrome River Technologies, Inc. My personal experience for the past 20 + years in the public and private sector is that every employee should make every possible effort necessary to solicit business related services responsibly and within the confines of the parameters set forth by the respective Travel / Expense Reimbursement Policies.
Travel expenses in the excesses as described in the dailies can have a tremendous impact of profits long term; these activities should be monitored by the Department of Energy, where at a minimum, there should be staff onboard qualified in the areas of accounting / finance, lean six sigma, public policy and auditing.
This is a new sector and there will be mistakes made initially and I welcome the so-called “watchdogs” but I ask that they offer solutions instead of the constant criticisms.
Best Regards!
