A man said to be in his 50s was yesterday jailed for 21 years by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow after he appeared before her and pleaded guilty to raping a minor.
The man Richard Archer, admitted that on April 10, 2016 at a village on the East Coast of Demerara, he engaged in sexual penetration with a girl under the age of 16.
Archer was represented by Attorney-at-Law Maxwell McKay, while State Counsel Lisa Cave, Sarah Martin and Seeta Bishundial appeared for the prosecution.
Justice Barlow ordered that the prison authorities deduct one-third of the sentence in light of Archer’s early guilty plea.
This matter was heard in the Sexual Offences Courtroom at the High Court in Georgetown.
