Rajendra Ramballie produced an outstanding spell as Essequibo Coast defeated Wakenaam by one wicket when the teams collided in an U15 40-over contest recently at Affiance Number one
ground.
Wakenaam batted first and managed 140 all out in 26.3 overs. Devon Ramrattan led with 30 while Mohandass Surujpaul made 27 and Ramesh Ramnarine 13. Ramballie was economical as he bagged 5-13.
Essequibo Coast encountered some nervous moments in the chase before crossing the line in the penultimate over, ending on 142-9. Shazam Mohamed scored 21 not out and Shaun Dawson 16. Devendra Hansraj bowled well to grab 4-21, while Ricky Persaud snared 3-18.
Ramballie was named man-of-the-match. The game was organised by Coaches Forbes Daniels and Nandkishore Andrews to help with the development of the young cricketers in Essequibo.
Andrews congratulated the teams and said a return fixture is billed for the Wakenaam Community Centre ground shortly. He extended gratitude to Hareshchand Ramballie, the Wakenaam NDC and Keemo Paul for their assistance. Daniels informed that training sessions for the players on the Coast continues on a daily basis at Zorg ground. He is calling on the business community to lend support so that these games can be played on a regular basis which will help to hone the skills of the youths as they prepare for other tournaments such as the inter county.
