Titus Eastman, 24, was yesterday released on bail after he denied an accusation that he stole money for a car sale transaction from a friend. He appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
The charge alleged that on December 12, 2018 at Water Street, Georgetown, Eastman stole $500,000 cash from Anisha Hintzen.
Attorney at law Dexter Todd represented Eastman and in his application for bail for his client stated that Eastman is an office assistant with no previous convictions or charges. He said that Eastman was already released on $20,000 station bail.
The attorney claims that his client accompanied the victim, who is his friend from the same workplace to sell a car at a city bank. However it was discovered that when the monies got to the bank teller the full amount was not there.
He further went on to say that all the monies were handed over by the buyer in the bank and Eastman cannot be blamed as he was always in the presence of Hintzen.
According to Todd, this is a ridiculous charge coming before the magistrate so early into the new year against his client, since the defendant was searched at the police station and no money was found on his person.
Police prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objections to bail and therefore bail was granted in the sum of $50,000. The matter was adjourned until January 11, 2019.
