Dhanraj Singh, who was busted with 42 kilograms of cannabis in January 2018, was yesterday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. He was also fined $22.6M.
Singh, who is a fisherman from Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast, made his final appearance before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Suddie Magistrate’s court yesterday. The charge read that on January 7, 2018, Singh had in his possession 42 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
On the day in question, the car Singh was driving was stopped and search by police in a Golden Fleece back street. During the search, 42 bags wrapped with plastic and suspected to be cannabis was discovered in the car; which was also occupied by two other males.
On January 12, 2018, Singh made his first court appearance and pleaded not guilty in the Suddie Magistrate’s Court. After a year-long defense by his attorney, James Bond, Singh was sentenced yesterday.
