A carpenter found himself arranged in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly to answer five charges of robbery by use of violence. All allegedly took place on New Year’s Day.
Colin Hooper appeared in court with a swollen face, torn and bloody clothing. In shackles and handcuff he limped to the prisoners’ box to answer to his charges. It was unknown as to how he got his injuries.
He denied all the charges that were read to him by the magistrate.
It was alleged that Hooper on January 1, 2019, at Durban Park, Georgetown robbed Shane Hackett, Isaiah Moore, Ronald Dhanraj, Niko Devonish and Shevon Clarke of items totalling to $491,000 and at the same time immediately or after he used personal violence on the victims.
Hooper was represented by attorney at law Clyde Forde who in his application for bail, informed the court that his client is 37 years of age, father of one and hails from East La Penitence squatting area.
He added that the defendant is not a flight risk and he is ready to comply with any conditions laid down by the court.
Police prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objections to bail although the age and address of the defendant mentioned in court were different from what was given to the police during investigations. However the prosecutor asked that conditions be attached to the bail.
Senior Magistrate Leron Daly then granted bail to Hooper in the sum of $100, 000 for each charge under the condition that he report to the East La Penitence police station. Hooper was instructed to return to court on February 8, 2019.
