A hit and run accident during the wee hours of Sunday morning has now left 34-year-old Shayne Haynes, of Supply Village, East Bank Demerara, dead. The accident occurred along the roadway of the said village.
According to reports the father of two left his sister’s home around 4:00 hrs. As he was walking along the roadway a speeding car struck him down and fled the scene. So loud was the impact that it woke up neighbours who upon inspection found the man lying on the roadway.
The injured man was rushed to the Diamond Hospital. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
The police have since visited the scene and retrieved Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from a resident in an attempt to identify the registration plates for the vehicle involved in the accident.
Police investigations are on-going.
