Night three of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/ExxonMobil International Futsal Festival at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Homestretch Avenue saw wins for East Coast All-stars, Caledonia, ZV All-stars and Galacticos De Roraima.
In the feature match of the night East Coast got a well earned 7-4 victory over the West Demerara All Stars. The West Dem side started the match with persistence and scored the first goal in the fourth minute thanks to quick action by Stephon Jupiter. Four minutes later, East Coast equalized with the inform Dwain Jacobs etching his name to the scoresheet.
East Coast then quickly capitalized on their good run and scored three more goals in six minutes with one each from Jacobs, Quason MaClean and Selwin Williams to take the score to 4-1.
West Dem’s Trayon Bobb scored in the 22nd minute before his teammate Jupiter added a brace seconds later to take the score to 4-3. However, East Coast rallied on to take the lead as Selwin Williams scored a minute later, Phillip Williams in the 26th and Jacobs in the 30th to cap off an exciting victory.
In another anticipated matchup, Guyana All Stars went down to the inform Galacticos De Roraima 4-3 in a nail biting encounter. The Brazilian side took control of the match early and drew first blood compliments of Raphael Lopes in the fifth minute, five minutes later Leilson DaSilva capitalized on an opportunity and took the score to 2-0. Needing two goals to equalize the Guyanese side scored them three minutes apart as Colin Nelson and Deon Alfred found the back of the net in the 12th and 15th minutes, respectively.
With the score locked at 2-2, the Brazilians clamped down on the Guyanese when Raphael lopes and Lucas Martins scored in the 20th and 38th minute to give them victory despite Nelson’s late strike in the 35th minute.
In the other fixtures Trinidad defeated the inform Georgetown All Stars 5-3 and ZV All Stars trounced Linden All Stars 5-4 for their first win.
The tournament concluded last night, the fourth and final match night, where the winner pocketed $1.2million, second $600,000, third $300,000 and fourth $100,000. The results of those matches will be featured in tomorrow’s issue.
