A North Ruimveldt man was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $1.3M after being found guilty of trafficking 908 grams of marijuana.
Ras Paris, 30, of 3720 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, had denied the charge, which stated that on March 29, 2017, at North Ruimveldt, he had in his possession the aforementioned amount of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
He was on trial before Senior Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Yesterday, the Magistrate ruled that she found sufficient evidence against Paris.
She told the court that after going through the evidence, which was lead by Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman, she found that the witnesses were all credible; hence she imposed the custodial sentence.
It was reported that on the day in question, police acting on information went to Paris home where they made contact with him and requested that a search be carried out on his premises. During the search, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics were found in an ornament.
Paris was then told of the offence to which he denied. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Paris was represented by Attorney George Thomas.
