An elderly couple of Zambia Village, Black Bush Polder were on Wednesday night beaten and robbed by three armed men. The woman and her husband who recently built back their home after a devastating fire in 2017, were just about to close their small shop when the men pounced on them.
Police have since confirmed that the couple had identified the perpetrators. The men were subsequently arrested. They are expected to be charged today for the robbery.
One of the victims, Marvin Duncan, whose head was bandaged, told reporters that he was just about to close the shop situated in front of their home in the yard when he was confronted by a masked man with a gun in hand.
“When me turn around is then me realise is bandit, so me ask he what he doing, what stupidness he doing? Then the man lash me couple well time behind me head and me start bleed”.
His wife stated that after she heard her husband yelling she realised that bandits were in there home and so she attempted to lock the door to the shop with her inside but one of the men managed to push it open. She too was hit about her body with a gun.
The men, he said, told them to lie flat on the ground. “Then he drag me to the kitchen. Me wife been in the shop but while me lay down them mask come down and me say me know them boys this but me na talk let them know”.
He stated that one of the men noticed him looking at him and he threw a “rice bag over my face” but Duncan had already identified him.
Duncan said the men carted off over $300,000 in cash, three gold finger rings, one pair gold bangle, one gold cricket band and one gold chain. They also took one case Tropical Riddim juice, one packet cigarette and one battery.
In 2017 Duncan and his wife Claudette lost over $22million after their home was set on fire by a drug addict relative.
