The strong Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets First Division Team under the leadership of Shawn Pereira on Sunday, qualified for their sixth consecutive finals in 2018. They defeated Tucber Park Cricket Club by five wickets at Albion Ground to join arch rivals Young Warriors Cricket Club in the finals of the Berbice Cricket Board Ivan Madray 100 Balls First Division Tournament.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets won the toss and elected to field first after the start of play was delayed due to overnight rain.
Tucber Park Cricket Club opening pair of M. Mickle and Steve Deonarine added 13 for the first wicket before Mickle was caught off the bowling of left arm spinner Keith Simpson for 09. Steady bowling from the Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets Team led by the experienced Eon Hooper never allowed the Tucber Park batting to score freely. A brief cameo of 22 from National allrounder Romario Shepherd assisted his team to reach 100 for 9 at the end of their 100 Balls. Hakeem Hinds 18, Steve Deonarine 12 were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as Eon Hooper 2 for 20 and Junior Sinclair 3 for 9 bowled well. Simpson, Kevin Sinclair and Clinton Pestano took a wicket each.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets lost the ultra aggressive Kevin Sinclair off the first ball of their reply, caught at mid off, off Devon Clements. Junior Sinclair was then trapped LBW by Clements at 4 for 2 in the 3rd Over. The dismissal of Vidal Crandon, run out for 02 in the 6th Over left Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets struggling at 20 for 3 but the promising Kevlon Anderson and experienced Jason Sinclair added 60 for the 4th wicket before Sinclair was run rout for a well played 28 which included three boundaries. The equation came down to 21 from 16 balls but Clinton Pestano and Anderson took nineteen from eight balls in the 15th Over bowled by National Under-17 medium pacer Leon Swammy. Pestano took a single from the first ball of the final bowler before Anderson was bowled by Romario Shepherd with the score tied. Former National Player Eon Hooper then pushed the next delivery to mid off for a quick single to win the match. Pestano was left unbeaten on 15. Clements ended on 2 for 12 while Romario Shepherd took 1 for 19 from 2.4 Overs.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets would now play Young Warriors Cricket Club in the Final on Sunday at the Port Mourant Ground. The Tournament is being sponsored by the Madray and Chintamani families in Memory of the Legendary Berbice Cricketer Ivan Madray, who played two tests of the West Indies in 1958. Madray was the third of nineteen Berbicians to play Test Cricket and is one of seven members of the historic Port Mourant Cricket Club to play at the highest level. Madray’s nephew Chandradat Chintamani will be present at the final and to assist in the presentation of prizes.
