Dear Editor,
The best thing that happened to Guyana’s politics in recent times is the coalition government. This coming together of different parties to advance the nation’s cause, may not have gotten all its acts together in their three years in office , but their coming together gives hope to all Guyanese, that finally we will live as one people one nation .
However a recent statement in the news by one of our learnt Doctor’s suggesting a moving away of the WPA, from this collation is in my opinion somewhat emotional and short sighted, and definitely not thinking of the future of the nation.
Dr. Hinds attested to statement made by Charrandass of one party being more influential than others in the collation. Let us be real, if a number of different fruits are put together to make a fruit salad the stronger in number or taste will most likely overwhelm the others.
The good Doctor must take into consideration that the putting together of a team of people from rival groups will also take time to synchronize. The history of West Indian cricket has taught us this, and in spite of the challenges faced, they became champions.
Guyana’s success as a nation is dependent on its people coming together.
I think that it was the Present Prime minister who said that this was the intent of Burnham and Jagan, after they tried the Winner take all policy for some time, and recognized that it will never put the nation forward. Fellow Guyanese the division of the coalition is not the answer.
The WPA leaving will only serve to strengthen the PPPC, and put Guyana back to those dark days. Unless someone can convince me that they have change after three years in opposition. The action by Charrandass may have exposed a weakness in the coalition, but it also shows that racial politics is hard to kill in Guyana.
The way forward is to support the better Guyana for all Guyanese policy. Should the PPPC want to work together with the other parties? This will also be a win for Guyana, but the divide and conquer politics only serve to hold national development back.
The coalition must stay together, and those seeking to divide must be rebuked for such childish behaviour.
