Dear Editor,
To begin with, majority of the workers are being underpaid while they are also forced to work overtime in a condition that is very unhealthy and very unsafe. Most of the workers there are middle aged women who always sit at the market while the very limited male has to work as single ranks at the other locations.
Some of those areas that are spoken about are the dumpsite which is manifested with flies. One working there must be constantly standing on the corner of the road in order to get some fresh air and to be away from the flies.
The municipal stores only have a fence at the front while both sides and the back are broken down. Imagine in the place of a robbery what will one do considering that there is only one gate with no side fence.
The next destination to be covered is the esplanade fun park. Here there is no proper lighting arrangements and the fence again is improper. At the mayor’s house, it is only of recently that a hut was built there.
Ranks had to sit on a wooden bench outside in the rain or sun. We have an inspector who has no vision for the department but sits in her office or with her middle aged women in front the market. As for the officer who is in charge and feels like the market belongs to him a little insight of his commonness will be revealed.
He is one who feels that all ranks are not important and that the males must fight for themselves simply because he is always messing around with the females. Once he was caught having sex with one female rank at a location.
For months ranks were promised a raise of pay and to this day some ranks cannot even take home a proper $45,000. We all know that the country is going through a crisis but we all have to survive. Consider a rank who has bills to pay and a family to take care of; will that money be enough?? After inquiring there’s one old excuse from the treasury. We do not have money
I’m beginning for the authorities to pay a visit to the various locations mentioned and see what is there that they can do to make the working environment a more convenient one.
