Dear Editor,
It was reported online that former AFC MP Charrandass Persaud flew out of Guyana for Canada hours after he voted yes and triggered another general elections in three months.
The question is why did Mr Persaud not remain in Guyana and join with the PPPC instead of flying out here to Canada?
If Charrandass Persaud was so concerned as he said about the future of the Guyanese people, then to whose benefit did he vote yes and force early elections and then get on a plane and turn his back on the 800,000 Guyanese he claimed he wanted to help?
Nevertheless we are constitutionally required to have elections in March 2019, of which the current APNU AFC government will most likely win with a larger majority than in 2015. I say this because the number of positive things the government has accomplished on an epic scale such as overseeing oil discoveries, new airport, pension increases, roadways, building programs for youth success, planning for bridges across our rivers and to bring gas onshore for consumer/industrial use, etc.
By contrast the PPPC will be weakened by what Charrandass Persaud did on December 21, 2018 because his yes vote handed the PPPC absolutely nothing significant to knock the APNU AFC government out of power on March 2019.
Charrandass Persaud made a huge political miscalculation with the push for early elections. LGE voter motivation should not be confused with General Election voters.
The fact is that there are more Guyanese today who will support the APNU AFC at the General Election ballots and they will show up in large numbers in March 2019 and give APNU AFC possibly close to forty seats in parliament this time around.
The PPPC does not have the support base in numbers to win a majority. So this means that the two sides must stop the fighting and start working together for the people.
The fighting that started since the 1960s has become boring and now unacceptable on every level.
Having said that, I will support that after the March 2019 General Elections, it would be prudent for the APNU AFC and PPPC to sit down and establish joint committees and work together to provide the public with respectful oversight of the energy sector and management of the country.
I totally support all media houses in Guyana regardless of political affiliation because one side does not have it right all the time. It’s valuable to hear all opinions that are based on facts.
The Guyanese media are hardworking men and women who provide the truth to an intelligent population despite a political scene that sometimes resembles a circus.
In the end Charrandass Persaud will be remembered for being just another clown having done an unintelligent juggling act and then flying away. Charrandass had his fifteen minutes of fame and the country gained nothing.
