The Cumberland, East Canje based Young Warriors Cricket Club has extended congratulations to their fast rising batting star, Shimron Hetmyer on his selection for Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2019. The IPL is the largest and most lucrative T20 tournament
globally and Hetmyer has pocketed US$588,000. He is the first Berbician that will play IPL.
A release from the club stated that Hetmyer was destined for greatness since he first went to the club at the tender age of six. He was a class above his peers and the club has nurtured his talent and made him be one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket today. The release further stated that Shimron who comes for a simple family and grew up in a Sugar Cane based area, was an aggressive batsman from the onset. He has excelled at all levels and was handed the senior team captaincy early in his career which surely helped him to captain the West Indies Under-19 to their first win ever in Youth World Cup.
The club wishes Shimron huge success but cautions him to be humble, keep his feet grounded, be discipline and remember the persons that touched his life during his journey to success. He is urged to remember his parents, his community, his cricket club (players and administrators) and mostly the almighty. The YWCC takes this opportunity to also congratulate young Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford on their pick and wish them well.
